Ranch Market is iconic in Phoenix, owned by an Italian American family, they serve licuados instead of cafés. Imagine that, in the summer of 2010, there is a place that isn’t cutting workers on purpose, yet they may even have a shortage of people to make delicious fresh food. To me, this is major fallout from unprogressive politics. Two things could happen. One, there is a local food renaissance (it’s already happening), but then there is at the same time, there is a major hemorrhaging in the culture of Phoenix. Because Phoenix has a fragile kind of diversity, I don’t appreciate attempts to systematically impoverish our cultural landscapes. Laws that threaten, intimidate and panic people achieve little.
